Walkers

On Wednesday, October 2, students gathered with their families to participate in the annual Walk To School Day along with many other children from across the country.  Walkbiketoschool.org explains more about this annual event: International Walk to School Day is a global event that involves communities from more than 40 countries walking and biking to school on the same day. It began in 1997 as a one-day event. Over time, this event has become part of a movement for year-round safe routes to school and a celebration ā€“ with record breaking participation ā€“ each October. Today, thousands of schools across America ā€“ from all 50 states, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico ā€“ participate every October.

It was a cold morning, but the low temperatures didn't stop the participants from walking from City Hall to Sisson or Mt. Shasta Elementary School.  Nearly 20 people participated in the walk this year, and many are looking forward to our Bike To School event in the spring.
